Baan Chang Cafe

A nature-immersed café where "large animals" await to welcome you.

When "Baan Chang Cafe" is mentioned, the first thing that likely comes to mind for many people is the sight of huge elephants, isn't it? However, once you actually step inside, you discover that this place offers much more than just those gentle giants everyone imagines.Upon arrival, the atmosphere outside the house felt wonderfully shady and pleasant like a home nestled amidst trees and greenery, accompanied by a gentle breeze. The sounds of nature mingled with the chatter of tourists, creating an ambiance that seemed to whisk us away from the city's chaos into a small, natural sanctuary offering peace and tranquility.

We strolled in, enjoying the lush, shady atmosphere. Before long, following the signs, we heard the faint sound of water. Tracing the sound led us to a small waterfall cascading amidst the natural surroundings. The rhythmic sound of water striking the rocks was soothing in a way that is hard to put into words. Occasional breezes rustling through the leaves added to the refreshing ambiance, making it the perfect spot to sit, rest, and listen to the sounds of nature.

After walking for a short while, we encountered the "host" of the place, who let out a loud, trumpeting call nearby. We slowly approached; my first impression was, "It’s much bigger than I imagined!" Yet, when we offered some food, the animal was remarkably calm. It gently extended its trunk to take the treats from our hands, moving its trunk, flapping its ears, and swishing its tail clearly delighted to be eating the fruit we had brought. The scene before us brought smiles to the faces of nearby tourists, charmed by the cuteness of this pair of giants. Being close to them like this was our favorite part; rather than just watching from afar, we got to observe their trunk movements, feeding habits, and various behaviors up close. It was a seemingly simple experience, yet one that left a lasting impression.

However, this "Baan Chang Cafe" isn't home solely to those two elephants; just across the way, some little raccoon friends also reside. They may look innocent, but there is a mischievous glint in their eyes as if they are secretly watching to see if we’ve brought any tasty treats along for them. As for the pair of "birds" those inseparable buddies they add a splash of liveliness with their calls and movements within their own space, instantly brightening up the home. A little further along, we encountered some "deer" standing quietly and watching us; their round eyes looked wary, yet they were utterly endearing.

For those who appreciate large animals, there are lions to see here. Standing close to them offers a completely different experience compared to seeing them in pictures; their sheer size, their bearing, and their steady yet powerful gaze held us captivated for a moment. Yet, when drowsiness set in, they transformed into nothing more than sleepy giant cats.

After fully enjoying the animals, we returned to the café to relax and sip a cold drink amidst the lush greenery and the sounds of nature. "Baan Chang Café" is more than just a place for coffee; it is a unique Krabi destination that combines a café, nature, and a small zoo all in one spot. For anyone visiting Krabi who wants a change of pace from the beach, we highly recommend stopping by this place for a stroll…
